Do you struggle with anxiety? Have trouble sleeping or just have general feelings of dread? I've been there. I really have. For years, I battled not being able to breathe right. I couldn't take a full breath. And I always felt anxious. I was always worry about something. And I felt like I didn't even know what was bothering me. And I couldn't pinpoint where the anxiety was coming from. Sometimes I didn't even realize that I was anxious or stressed. And so if I couldn't point to where the anxiety was coming from or what combination of things was worrying me, I, I couldn't fix it. And so I wanted to see how we understand the underlying causes of our anxiety and our stress and see what solutions we can find for it. And I think this is more common than you might think. People tend to hide their true nature and struggles from the rest of the world. It's just human nature and it's not something that's only human. Animals don't want to show their weakness and feel exposed to danger because they think that they'll be vulnerable or attacked because of it. So it's this very base thing that people do to protect themselves. So there's a lot of people out there that are struggling with this same thing that you are. And so just take comfort in that a little bit and know that this isn't something that you're doing all by yourself, even if it can feel very lonely at times. Stress and anxiety can present themselves in amazing ways. It's not just that I wasn't able to breathe or take a full breath, and I've seen stress and worry lead to migraines. For years I've had sore throats and sometimes I would get pain in my back that I know was related to stress. And even a few years ago I had to go to the E.R. three different times over a couple of months because I had this severe pain in my chest in my upper GI tract. And one of the times I went to the E.R., I think my top blood pressure number was over 190, almost 200. And that's like stroke level pain. And I ended up getting all these tests done. They did an endoscopy where they they sent a scope down your throat and looking inside your upper GI tract and your stomach. And at the end of all this, after all these tests, after all this stuff, my doctor, this is weeks later sat me down and said, you know, there's this connection between the gut and the brain. And she she kept talking about all this stuff. And I was like, I was like, You're saying I'm crazy. And they were kind of beating around the bush. And so I laughed. And then she was like, yeah, you're you're manifesting this from your your mind. And so that was a powerful thing, knowing that my mind and my brain was causing something that led me to go to the emergency room and have blood pressure that was almost 200 and I had to drink liquid lidocaine in the emergency room to get the pain to go away. That's phenomenal. And it was caused by stress. And so once I found that out, I was actually better because suddenly I knew that stress was the cause and it made me feel better instantly. And one time my wife was so stressed out that her back was hurting. And so we went to the doctor and she ended up getting X-rays on her back. And she was so stressed out that the muscles were pulling her spine out of alignment. And so I guess the point is there's all these ways that stress and anxiety can impact us, not just the ones that I listed, but there's a ton more. And I would ask you to think about this for a minute and maybe write down ways that stress impacts you. Where do you most feel? Or experience stress and anxiety when it comes on and when you're feeling it? You have to start by understanding your own internal landscape. When you're in these cycles of stress and anxiety, what happens to you? Do you freeze up? Are you less productive? Do you sometimes know there are things that you want to do or need to do and you just don't do them because you're so stressed? And, you know, stress and anxiety can tend to build up and influence us in a way that makes the whole situation worse. For instance, you may know that eating better leads to less stress and anxiety, but because you're stressed and anxious, you don't eat right. And the same thing can be said for exercise. Exercise helps to shed anxiety, and helps you to be less stressed. But because you're stressed, you don't exercise. And if you just took care of that one bill, you feel better or called that one company back and settled an issue. You'd have it resolved and you'd feel better. But this stress and anxiety that we have, it freezes us from doing these things. And so this this cycle of stress and anxiety just continues. In fact, it doesn't just continue. It gets worse. Like you actually see it getting worse because the stress and anxiety just creates more stress and anxiety. So just understanding that this cycle exists is this this great step in the right direction. So just know that you've taken a step right now just by watching this and understanding that you're moving in the right direction. we have to understand that there's this great connection between the mind, body and soul. They're all connected. And if they aren't all healthy and aligned, our whole being is going to be out of sort. Mental stress triggers the body's fight or flight response, and that can lead to increased heart rate, muscle tension and rapid breathing. Imagine sitting for years at a time with tense muscles. People have lived that way. I've lived that way. I've lived for years at a time where I was so stressed. I had all these tense muscles and like, you don't even realize it's happening most of the time. It's like, be in that pot of boiling water. And it came. The temperature came up so slowly you don't realize you're seeing this pot of boiling water all around you and prolonged anxiety can lead to chronic health problems for you, such as hypertension, digestive disorders, like I was talking about. And it can actually weaken your immune system where you actually get sick, you can get cold, you can get the flu, you can get these other diseases that happen because you're stressed, because your immune system is weaker, because you don't feel good, because you're anxious. science tells us that stress can kill us. So it's this thing that we have to be aware of because it is it's really destructive. And fatigue can be something that is a real issue when it comes to anxiety and stress. You know, even in the absence of physical illness, you can be tired because of stress and anxiety and you might see disrupted sleep patterns, a bad appetite, low energy. And if your mind and body are this active in relation to stress as reacting to your stress and anxiety, they're going to be producing all of these distracted feelings and all this noise inside of you, and you're not going to be able to hear your soul. And the mind is noisy enough without being inflamed by these full cycles of stress and anxiety. Our mind has a ton going on without the stress, without the anxiety. And so you're going to miss that divine self or universal connection within God, whatever you want to call it. You could call it the Oneness or the Brahman of the Hindu, or you could call it Christ consciousness, that thing inside of you, you're going to miss it if you've got all this noise around you. And that's your intuition, your creativity, your spark we're talking about missing. You need that. You need to be in touch with it. It will help you be calmer and be more peace. So what can you do right now to make sure that you remind yourself to be aware of all of this, to keep it in mind as you move ahead. Before we move on, I'd ask you to please subscribe by hitting the watermark in the lower right hand corner of this video. And if you think it might help any friends or family, I ask you to share it out to them and see if you might help them out. Let's look at uncovering the roots of anxiety. You might ask If I don't know what's wrong, how can I fix it? Let's see if we can narrow things down. And before we start this section, I want to add a quick note that you have to be honest with yourself here. That's one of the first steps to spiritual and personal growth. So grab a notebook or take notes on your phone as we go through some of these questions here. generally what are the most prominent stressors in your life right now? Maybe they're obvious, maybe they're not. Just go ahead and give it a shot and writing a few of them down. Can you identify specific situations at work or home that consistently trigger your anxiety? And specific to relationships, are there relationships in your life that consistently cause you stress? And how do certain people affect your mood and your anxiety levels? And this could be any relationship in your life. It could be a romantic relationship or a personal relationship could be anything. at work or school? Do you feel overwhelmed by your workload or responsibilities? And are there aspects of your work or your school environment or culture that make you anxious? And you have to ask yourself to maybe do you do you hate your job? Do you hate your school? Are there past events or experiences that you find yourself repeatedly thinking about things that might still affect you from the past, that are still here today on your mind all the time? And how do these past experiences influence your current feelings of anxiety and stress? This is a really big one. I think that when you look at our past, you know, it can consume us. It can. It can hold us back. And there's a lot of wisdom and power in letting go. And we're not going to dive too deep into that right now. But we do have a great video on letting go and it'll be on the card there on the screen if you want to check it out. How do your physical health and lifestyle choices impact your anxiety? Are there any health issues that are currently a source of stress for you? So think about how you feel and maybe there's something that's serious that that you have to worry about that just adds to your stress and anxiety. So so consider that. What emotions do you experience most frequently when you're feeling anxious? So think about how it feels to actually be stressed and just what comes up. I think that can really lead you to a place where you can really analyze where the stress and anxiety is coming from and how do you typically cope with stress and anxiety when it comes up and does the mechanism that you're using work and does it last for a long time? Is it something that actually helps you keep the stress and anxiety down? And what self-care practices do you have that help you with this? How do you take care of yourself when you're stressed and when you're anxious? Do you have any unmet goals or aspirations that give you stress? Maybe something that you want to do that you're not doing and it's upsetting you? How do your expectations and the pressure to achieve these goals impact how your anxiety and stress levels look? It's another big one. You know, the things that we want to do that we may need to do and maybe not doing them is impacting us. what worries or fears do you have about the future? How do uncertainties or question marks in your life contribute to your state of anxiety? And this is another big one. And I think we talk about living in the present moment a lot in the spiritual community. And there's the idea of if you're fully present in the moment, you're less tied to that past. You're not tied to future outcomes, but you're living every single day as that day. And there's an incredibly powerful book that we reviewed here on the channel called The Power of Now. And I'm going to leave that card here on the screen if you want to check that out. Do you feel a sense of fulfillment in your life right now? Can you write down your core values and beliefs? Do you know what they are? And how does the alignment of these core values and beliefs impact your stress and anxiety levels? Do you know what your higher purpose or your Dharma is? This can be something that's really big in helping you be less stressed and anxious, and we're not going to get too deep into that right now. But we do have a great video on Living your higher Purpose in your Dharma, and you can check that out by clicking the card on the screen. And again, before we kind of move on from that, if we know what our higher purpose is, which is probably unique to us in this world, it's not going to be like what anybody else is. If you know what your higher purpose is, if you know your Dharma and you're aligned in living that suddenly everything starts to make more sense of the world. So I really definitely urge you to check that out. Let's think about the digital part of the equation. Consider how you spend your time on digital devices and how that impacts your stress and anxiety. Do you spend more time than you want to on your phone? Do you spend more time using a specific app or several apps on your phone? your phone doesn't have to be this bad thing. It's kind of this miracle that we're holding in our hands is amazing, right? It's really cool. But how we choose to interact with it and consume information from it is going to have an impact on your alignment of your mind, body and soul. So how is your relationship with social media? Does it fill you up or take away from you? Even as I was sitting here, you know, at my laptop preparing note for this video today, I was focused and kind of in the zone. Felt really good about the creativity that was going on and it was flowing. And I still had this urge to grab my phone and pick it up. In fact, I stopped and I did pick it up a couple of times and I didn't need to pick it up. There was nothing that I needed to see on it. I just did it because it called to me. And so think about how all this digital stuff in your life impacts your stress and anxiety. This can be a really big area that leads people to be stressed and anxious. Look at your anxiety and stress from internal versus external perspectives. What external events contribute to your anxiousness? Things beyond you? And then also consider the opposite. Think about the internal thought patterns that you have that keep coming up and stress you out. both can be really important things that trigger your stress and trigger your anxiety. I just hit you with a lot of questions and it's a lot to think about. So let's just take a second here. Take a step back. Slow down your thoughts. Relax a little bit. Give yourself a smile and you know, just realize that you did some work to help yourself out. And now that you're more relaxed, take a deep breath and think about carving out some time where you can just go over your answers to these questions. Allow yourself some space and time to reflect on what's going on in your life and have some grace for yourself. Know that you can start from a place of self-love Here. you've probably got some information in these answers that will tell you where you might start making some improvements. And don't try to break out of everything all at once. The Hindus have this beautiful concept of samsara. Samsara is this large cycle of outbursts, life, death and then rebirth. And it keeps going as we evolve spiritually. Each time we're reborn and eventually we'll spiritually evolve to a point where we break out of our samsara and we find enlightenment. But there's also these medium and small, samsaras in our life. And these cycles of anxiety and stress. There are samsaras. There are these small, samsaras for you. So how how can you visualize these samsaras and see how you can break out of each one of them? And you can do that by being aware, being intentional. And you also have to be patient and have some patience and grace for yourself. You can replace your cycles of anxiety and stress with cycles of positivity and well-being. As you look at where to start, think about what's most impactful for you. what works for me may be very different from what works for you, but just pick a thing and decide to break that cycle and in its place, insert a good habit, maybe some intentional movement, go for a walk, get some exercise, something simple you could put in place a new routine for stretching. It could be nutrition related, where you decide to feel better by eating whatever makes you feel the best. Because again, that's going to be something intensely personal. Whatever works best for you. And as you do these things, you'll be at the same time removing those cycles of stress and anxiety by replacing them with these positive things in your life, these things that boost your well-being. And suddenly this is going to allow your soul and your spirit to speak as well. And there's that alignment of your mind, body and soul. And there are tools out there that might help you. You've already started writing some stuff down and answering those questions we were talking about earlier. journaling can be this really powerful thing that can lead you to find peace and calm within yourself. There's mindfulness meditation or relaxation routines that can ground this inner you. Here in the current real world, you can find quiet and peace. And if you're stuck on some things from the past, you might consider seeking professional assistance. talk to somebody, Seek out a supportive community where you can share your experience with others or hear about their experiences.
